7 Things to do on Friday Night If You’re Not a Party Person or Don’t Want to Go Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

If you’re like me, you probably don’t like the whole party atmosphere on the weekends. I for one haven’t been to a single party since I’ve been at Tech, and I’m a junior. Go figure. You may ask how I get through the weekends without partying my head off and getting drunk off my butt. The answer is simple. I still go out, I just don’t party. Some of you may think it sounds easier than it actually is, but trust me! It’s not.

1.     Movies- I LOVE to go to the movies on a Friday night. You might like to do the same thing, especially if you have an amazing boyfriend like I do (tehehe). Seriously though, going to the movies is a great way to spend your time on the weekend. With popcorn, soda, and some close friends by your side, it’ll be like heaven on earth. If you’re the type of person that hates spending a lot of money, get a Redbox movie and call it a night.

2.     Dinner- Go out to eat ! I usually prefer Ruby Tuesdays or Olive Garden. It’s a great way to socialize without getting too crazy. Also, you can keep it classy by getting one of their signature wines. Yum. Go ahead and splurge on dessert too! You’ve worked hard all week. Take your friends! Or your amazing boyfriend.

3.     Bowling- What can I say about this one? It’s AWESOME, especially if you’re super competitive. It may sound lame, but you won’t be thinking the same way when your bestie is beating the crap out of you with all her strikes. It’s also active. Who cares if the shoes are ugly? Deal with it. Go out and have a BALL! Haha. Get it? Like a bowling ball? Okay, on to the next thing.

4.     Makeover party- Not your typical college party. Let’s step into reality for a second ladies. You know you love doing each other’s make-up, hair and nails. You can’t deny it. The thought of Backstreet Boys playing in the background while you and your friends dance around in terrycloth robes with green gunk on your face excites you. I know it does. So why don’t you do it?

5.     Roller Skating- This one is a lot of fun. There’s food, air hockey and more. Even if you don’t know how to skate, you should still get your butt on the rink and fall until you get it right! You might want to wear butt pads though.

6.     Wii- Do I really have to explain this one? Exactly how many dance games are there to play on Wii? A LOT. Have a competition. It’s kind of like a party because you all will have the whole dance thing down. Just don’t break the TV with the remote because that would be bad, and the party would be over. Someone in your dorm or apartment has a Wii; I guarantee it. If they don’t, then they’re lying.

7.     Exercise- May not sound like too much fun, but this is a great way to work off those careless weekend eating habits you may have—and that dessert I told you to get at dinner. It doesn’t even have to be intense. If you have a Netflix account, search for Pilates or yoga videos. Don’t underestimate this. Those programs will burn you out! You may also want to look good for that amazing boyfriend of yours.

So there’s my list ladies! Have fun with it. Mix it up and have a good time. You don’t have to party and drink to have fun. As for the guys—I guess you could do any of the above, including the makeover party if you’re into that kind of thing.
