Did you know that according to the American Journal of Public Health, our skin absorbs around 64% of what we put onto it? This can be anything from sunscreen to perfumes to even the ingredients in our everyday makeup products.

Because of this, people are being extra cautious about the products they wear more than ever. An article by Elle does an amazing job at explaining what clean beauty truly means. With words such as “natural” and “organic” being thrown around left and right – it’s important to understand what criteria make a product clean, or not so clean.

So, want to start looking into cleaner makeup, but don’t know where to begin? Here are a few clean beauty brands to make your search a little bit easier:

100% Pure

The name truly says it all. 100% Pure is a beauty brand that uses, you guessed it – 100% pure ingredients. With lip gloss pigmented with fruit, and eyeliner pigmented with black tea leaves, this brand is about as clean as it gets. 100% Pure is available online and in their stores around the United States and Canada.

Lush

Contrary to popular belief, Lush sells more than just bath bombs! They have a clean skin care and makeup line made of the freshest, all natural ingredients. Although sometimes a little bit harder to find, Lush is always switching out and updating their hand-made makeup products online and in Lush stores.

ILIA

ILIA Beauty as defined by their website is a clean beauty line that takes pride in “balancing safety with product performance.” With practically a full face of clean beauty available online and in Sephora stores, ILIA is an award winning brand with ingredients your skin will thank you for.

Burt’s Bees

The natural brand we all know and love, Burt’s Bees has a growing makeup line that is sure to have something for everyone. With ingredients born from nature, and products sold at most drug stores, clean beauty is more accessible than ever. And if that won’t win you over, take a look at their bee-themed packaging – the cutest!

Now let’s be honest, switching over to a makeup collection made up of entirely clean products isn’t realistic for everyone. To help incorporate clean beauty into your routine, when your makeup product runs out, try to replace it with a cleaner alternative. This way getting a cleaner, more natural collection of makeup will be a little bit easier on you and your wallet.
