Why Horoscopes Should Be Used in Every Day Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

For me personally, my horoscope kind of runs my life. I try to not overthink it or force it to be true. My go-to method is to read it at the end of the week versus the beginning, so I can see how accurate its predictions were.

For a great weekly source of horoscope readings, refer to the Free People Blog, featuring the work of astrologist Tracy Allen.

Horoscopes are under the umbrella of Astrology. Astrology defined is the study of movements and relative positions of celestial objects as a means of divining information about human affairs and terrestrial events. A horoscope by definition is the forecast of a person’s future, typically including a delineation of character and circumstances based on the relative positions of the stars and planets at the time of that person’s birth. These horoscopes are divided into 12 different signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. These signs hold different meanings and stories, which is why they have compatibilities or not amongst the various signs. My birthday is September 5, making myself a Virgo (August 23- September 22)! I consider myself to have a pretty versatile personality, basically getting along with anyone. However, when reading up on my sign and who I favor personality wise or do not, it has truth. It also allows me to understand a person a little deeper when knowing their signs. There have been many instances when I’ll get to know someone and, depending on there traits, I have an idea of what their sign is and once asking, I’m proven correct. Because of this method, I feel that the astrology between zodiac signs holds immense accuracy. What I do find important to do so nothing is forced, is to take the time to know yourself and others without that being a factor and then eventually tack it on and see if it does hold truth.

With these definitions, how can a horoscope not be valid? As humans our moods, purposes, motivations etc. are constantly changing. The cause of most of these changes is out everyday life and what the things and people that are encountered. Astrologists study these changes and connect to them to nature and the ever changing scenarios in life. These studies go hand and hand with the prediction that our moods change depending on the phases of the moon or the alignment of the planets. In astrology, the planet with the most effect over us is Mercury. Mercury being in or out of retrograde is a huge thing in the astrology studies and with more information it, you can read as to why that is.

I understand that agreeing to many of these ideals and beliefs and saying that out loud sounds ridiculous, but why wouldn’t it be accurate? The alignment and flow of planets and moon direction and/or phases are something that happen everyday!
