Why Disney’s Inside Out Caused the Biggest Existential Crisis of 2015

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

On June 19, 2015, Disney’s Pixar graced us with another classic, Inside Out. While the movie was meant to be lighthearted and fun for the whole family, it brought up some heavy topics that may cause some of the adults in the crowd to reflect on their emotions and who is at the helm of their own mind. Is it joy, anger, fear, disgust or sadness?

People of the internet everywhere discuss how what was supposed to be a lighthearted kid’s movie turned out to spark some deep self reflection. Tumblr user thegreatkvtsby reflects, saying “Personally, while watching, it made me realize that in my repressed state, I repress fear the most.” Twitter had a lot to say as well.

Some felt the movie really portrayed their feelings well.

Others thought there could be some changes.

It gave some a moment to reflect on their own psyche.

Some even came up with great ideas to expand the discussion!

You gotta admit, that was a pretty heavy topic for a kid’s movie! Thoughts and feelings are a loaded topic, but Pixar pulled it off. Even after all the emotional rollercoasters, we were left with a happy message.
