Which Crystal is Best For You: A Beginner’s Guide to Using Healing Crystals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Crystals can be used in a variety of ways and have the power to raise energetic frequencies, heal trauma and increase personal growth. People choose to carry certain crystals on their personnel, meditate with them and use their properties to cleanse their aura and raise their personal vibration as well as the vibrations around them. According to Angelgrotto, “Crystals each have a unique color and vibrational frequency that connects to our energy field. By doing so, crystals can resolve blockages, balance our chakras, and transform negative energy into positive.” Each type of crystal has unique healing properties and enhancements in spiritual growth. It is also important to become aware of the seven chakras, or “seven wheels of energy” in the body that include the crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral and root chakras. Here are seven crystals that aid in healing parts of the seven chakras that I strongly recommend for beginners.

 Clear Quartz: The Master Healer

The clear crystal quartz is the most versatile stone, also known as the “Master Healer” and “Universal Crystal.” This specific crystal can be used to amplify the energy and power of other crystals, especially when using a pointed hexagonal clear quartz that points to a certain crystal in order to heighten its effects. This is a great choice when working with a specific intention in mind that one wants to manifest in their physical reality. It is connected to the crown chakra, and its home is often the kitchen, bathroom, entrance, meditation room and garden.

 Amethyst: The Stone of Peace

The amethyst crystal is one of the best used for meditation. This stunning purple crystal helps release stress, relax the mind and strengthen our intuition as a whole. With its beauty and irresistibility, the amethyst is often used to decorate homes and is worn as jewelry to bring a sense of peace in one’s life. It also amplifies the third eye and crown chakra, and in meditation, you can place it on your forehead to open the third eye. It can also be put by the bedside to help create a peaceful night’s sleep.

Rose Quartz : The Stone of Love

If you are looking to amplify your love life and feel like you are missing a sense of passion and intimacy, rose quartz is the best place to start. Not only does it aid in relationships, but it also raises the energetic force of attraction for universal and self-love into your life, and helps in the process of healing the heart chakra. When meditating, it is best to hold this crystal close to your heart. Many put rose quartz in the living room, bathroom and in any form of art room.

Citrine: The Ultimate Manifestation Crystal

The yellow and brownish stone that almost looks like brown sugar is called citrine, and it is one of the most powerful crystals for manifestation. If you are looking for an energetic boost in your work life or manifestation techniques, I recommend obtaining citrine because it increases abundance, imagination and overall comfort. This crystal falls under the category of the solar plexus chakra and is often placed in offices and studio areas.

 Malachite: The Harmonious Crystal

Malachite absorbs pollutants from the environment and body, and also works to remove any negative and unwanted energies. This heart and solar plexus chakra crystal is also known to be a lucky crystal, and it was often carried during travel as a form of energetic protection. This crystal can be carried during journeys or placed in rooms such as the living room, office and kitchen areas.

 Black Tourmaline: Stone of Protection

The black tourmaline crystal is known for its cleansing, grounding and protection properties. It absorbs any negative energy and protects individuals against the emotional strain of stress and fear. It also protects us from environmental pollution in the electromagnetic field. Black tourmaline helps stimulate the root chakra and aids in getting rid of anything contributing to low vibration. It is often placed in entrances and workrooms throughout the home.

Carnelian: The Passion Crystal

Carnelian is a great choice for amplifying creativity and passion in your life, specifically in the aspects of success and career, as well as bringing a sense of encouragement and emotional healing. This orange, fiery crystal is a root and sacral chakra crystal that is often placed in bedrooms, art rooms or kitchens and even children playrooms. It also significantly boosts confidence and helps bring motivation into an individual’s life.
