Top 10 Reminders To Help You During the UCI Bike Race

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

The UCI Road World Championships starts this weekend on Saturday, Sept. 19. Luckily, VCU will be closed for the week, but for those who will be sticking around for work or just because, you probably know that transportation won’t be fun. Below are some helpful tips for VCU students and faculty on getting around and other helpful information:

1. Check the VCU map for parking information and RamRide routes. Remember, each day is a different race and schedule. Plan extra time for your commute. Roads close one hour before race start time and reopen one hour after race completion. Visit http://vcu.hostrva.com.

    2. Handi-Ride and RamSafe will provide service. Visit http://richmond2015.vcu.edu/parking.html for more information.

    3. Many buildings, including the University Student Commons, will require you to have your VCUCard to enter. Be sure to carry it with you. For lost or stolen cards, contact the Sanger Hall VCUCard Office.

    4. Telecommuting is encouraged for eligible VCU employees, especially Friday, Sept. 25. Be sure to review the HR-related information and work with your supervisor to plan.

    5. If you have signed up to volunteer with Richmond 2015, be sure to review their training information.

    6. Residence halls and dining facilities are open. Check hours for dining at http://vcu.hostrva.com.

    7. Use VCU SafeNet Wireless and Eduroam during the event. Guest wireless will not be available. Review Technology Services blog for a list of services available during the event.

    8. Have fun and capitalize on this experience but remember to be safe. Review these safety tips and remember to contact VCU Police in the event of an emergency on campus. If you see something suspicious, say something; call VCU Police 24/7 at (804) 828-1234 or use the free LiveSafe app on a smart phone.

    9. Check TelegRAM every afternoon of the event for updates and next day plans. And sign up to receive daily Bike Race Advisories via text messages. To subscribe, text the keyword VCUBIKE to 79516.

    10. Use the VCU Bike Race Hotline, (804) 828-6502, during race times if you need additional assistance or email richmond2015@vcu.edu.
