A Struggling Collegiette’s Christmas List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Collegiettes everywhere are asked the same thing every year: “What do you want for Christmas?” This year, most of us are insanely broke. Here are some basic necessities that may sound odd at first, but will be greatly appreciated when unwrapped.

1. Toilet Paper

Please. I’d appreciate it so much. Every time I buy toilet paper at the store I feel so weird and “adult-y.” Back when I lived at home, the rolls would refill by themselves. I never had to worry about running out of toilet paper until now.

2. Keurig Cups

My gosh, I definitely can’t afford these. They’re so convenient and have so many different flavors. I’m also half-dead 99 percent of the time, so it would be awesome to have some caffeine on hand.

3. Socks

Us collegiettes actually do enjoy getting socks for Christmas. I lose a sock from a pair practically every day. Plus, my high school socks are starting to look dingy. Fuzzy and lotion enriched socks are a plus.

4. Baby Wipes

These are a necessity. From thoroughly wiping intimate areas to removing makeup at night, these babies are versatile.

5. Lotion

Thank you to everyone who gives me lotion every Christmas. I haven’t bought lotion in years. Keep the moisturizers coming because these hands are dry as we speak.

6. Gift Cards

Any gift card given to me will be extremely appreciated. They’re a great gift that’ll let me avoid blowing cash money on useless things I don’t need. Starbucks? Yes. Chipotle? Yes. Target? Yes. Visa? Yes, please.

7. Kitchen Things

There are so many recipes on Pinterest I want to try but can’t because I don’t have half of the ingredients needed. A spice set would be a great gift. Any cutlery, mugs, smoothie makers and waffle makers are also things we would love.

8. Personal Care Things

Aunts, moms and grandmas, you know the deal. Tampons, panty liners and night pads are expensive nowadays. These would be appreciated so much.

9. Shampoo & Conditioner

It’s about that time for another set of shampoo and conditioner. The more we have on stock, the less we have to worry about how we’re going to get a new bottle. From Pantene to Paul Mitchell, we don’t discriminate.

10. Plastic Water Bottles

Sometimes we’re just too lazy to refill the Brita, other times we are just on the go. Water bottles are a blessing for us.

11. Lip Balm

I always need lip balm on hand. These make for great stocking stuffers. I lose my lip balms all the time, so by the time Christmas comes I won’t have one anymore.

12. Makeup

Mascara is another great stocking stuffer. We always run out of mascara, so it would be an awesome present to stock up on. Eyeshadow palettes, blush, foundation and makeup brushes are also on our wish lists. We can’t afford those things right now, but we know you have our backs.
