How are you involved at VCU or in the community?

Apart from being a student and budding documentarian, I’m also the executive chef at 1016 Park Ave. I manage to keep pretty busy as a result.

Favorite spot in Richmond:

A few miles down Broad Street near Willow Lawn, there’s a miniscule Asian grocery store that looks like it was basically transplanted from a small alleyway behind some corner in Taipei. The aisles were built for Asian grandmothers so it’s an absolute trip to walk your shoulders in between them. That’s also the place I get my shallots for a reasonable price (please, please, please don’t go to Kroger).

How do you spend your free time?

I like to spend my free time cooking mostly, but I do enjoy working out frequently, and I would be remiss if I neglected to mention the hours that have been poured into practicing sports commentary, which is kind of what I’d like to do someday.

Who would play you in the movie of your life?

Temuera Morrison playing Jake “The Muss” Heke from Once Were Warriors would have to be cast as me.

Current food obsession:

There’s a pho restaurant in Willow Lawn that speaks to my soul on a different level right now. The first time I went, I couldn’t stop thinking about it until I went back that same weekend.

Where was your first kiss?

On the sidewalk at midnight in the glow of the streetlights.

What’s one chore that you just hate?

I love mostly everything about them, but I turn and flee in the opposite direction when the prospect of cleaning the crockpot is brought up.

How do you like to spend a rainy day?

A slow rainy day isn’t complete without a mug of real hot chocolate (lose the packets), and something really high in sugar and carbs, with a binge marathon of Friends running in the background.

Last song you listened to:

Know Yourself by Drake

Last TV show you watched:

The Wire

Any guilty pleasures?

My irrational and sometimes excessive love for professional wrestling, but at this stage in my life, I’m far past the point of guilt.

Spirit animal:

Gary Busey

Celeb crush:

Tom Brady

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can put both legs behind my head at the same time. It’s rad.

Fun fact:

My Thai grandfather was the first man to introduce dairy cows into Thailand.
