Broad Appetit: “Where Food and Art Intersect.”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Who doesn’t love food?  This past weekend I had the amazing opportunity of experiencing Richmond’s annual Broad Appetit!  It featured different kinds of restaurants from all over Richmond, ranging from Indian to seafood to Thai to dessert-focused restaurants.  Walking down Broad Street with my friend, we braved the heat and hungry groups of Richmonders to survey what this festival had to offer.  We saw colorful tents filled with shouting restaurant employees and owners, asking all of RVA to come sample what they had to offer.  There were plenty of tents like Tio Pablo’s, Jerry’s, and Millie’s that were decorated extravagantly.

There were a variety of restaurants, with varying prices for a sample of their foods.  I saw some of the longest lines for Lady N’awlins for what I can assume was for their oysters.

It seemed like almost half of Richmond came out for the event, along with some of their dogs. (That poor poodle must have been suffering from the intolerable heat).

The lines for most of the tents were extremely long; at least, they appeared way too long for us to wait in line in the blazing heat.  I have no doubt, however, that the food would have been worth it.  The festival had some musical groups performing, and some side activities for children to play.  There were also what I can guess, were some of Richmond’s best wines and beers up for sale.

I had the pleasure of tasting some of  Ginger Thai Taste’s dumplings with duck sauce, and it was delicious.

I also had the opportunity of trying some Cake pops, and they surprised me; I expected something hard to bite into, instead I found something, SHOCKINGLY, cake-like and sweet.  Who would’ve guessed?  I cannot wait for the festival to come around next year!  I hope to try more foods next time.

LIKE THIS.  What an awesome looking cake!
