9 Signs That We Are Not Talking, We’re Just Texting

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

There’s this weird misunderstanding sometimes that happens between people who have exchanged phone numbers because they hit it off the night before. It’s the part when one person seems to think that since they’ve exchanged friendly conversation via text they’re somehow “talking” instead of just texting the girl or guy. To save you the unnecessary heartache and overthinking before you send a text to this individual, take a look at some of the signs that indicate you two are just texting buddies and nothing more. Granted these signs vary depending on the person of course.

1. The person you’re texting responds super slow.

Response time is based on your importance to that individual. If they respond slowly all of the time you are low on their totem poll of importance, just sayin!

2. Short responses.

A short response is never a good sign if it’s constantly happening with this same individual. No one is ever too busy to respond to someone who matters to them.

3. Lovey-dovey emoji usage isn’t reciprocated.

If you’re the only one who sends the hearteye emoji or the kissy lips, then they’re just not that into you bud.

4. They hit you with the “Hey buddy or bud.”

I’m sorry, but you have officially-unofficially been friendzoned.

5. When the conversation is redundant.

If you’re getting tired of sending the same “wyd?“ text every day to jumpstart a conversation, trust me they are tired of responding to it.

 6. The conversation is always one sided

You shouldn’t always be the one to keep the conversation going, make him or her work for it to. DON’T force the connection. I repeat, don’t force the conversation.

7. They don’t text you good morning and goodnight every day.

This lets you know that he or she isn’t thinking about you.

8. Your name isn’t saved properly.

Either your name isn’t saved at all or a description of you replaces your name.

9. They only strike conversation with you by saying “I’m bored.”

This is code for the person I’m actually really talking to is busy right now and can’t respond at the moment, so for now let’s talk.
