5 Sneaker Styles You Need to Have in Your Wardrobe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Since athleisure has gained more attention from mainstream media and led by celebrities and influencers, sneakers are becoming more of a mainstay in everyone’s closets. Not only that, but the easiest way to avoid having nothing to wear is keeping the essentials in your closet – especially when it comes to shoes. Shoes can not only make or break an outfit, but your whole day can be ruined with a bad pair of shoes. A big claim, I know, but hear me out, uncomfortable shoes that hurt your feet are never fun, especially when your moving and on your feet all day, which is why you should incorporate more sneakers into your wardrobe, so here are some classic ones to keep on hand.

Sneakers are the easiest way to add a bit of the athleisure trend into your daily wardrobe, without sacrificing comfort and wear-ability, not to mention that they come in many different styles and colors, so you can always find something that speaks to your personal style and individuality.

Slip-on sneakers are essential, especially for all the college girls on the go, especially when you wake up late and are rushing out the door for class. Vans are a staple for slip-ons and come in many different colors to match every outfit and style in your closet. Not only that, but they are perfect for the summer and go with so many outfits, whether it is dressed up or dressed down.

High Tops

High top sneakers, such as Converse, are staples for most people’s wardrobes, across all genders and ages. They are a classic that most people already have in their closets, but in case you need more convincing, high top sneakers pair well for the colder months and transitioning throughout the spring. Pairing them with jeans or shorts make for an easy outfit due to their versatility.

Chunky Sneakers

Chunky sneakers started trending a few years ago, but they have yet to fade into the background of previous fashion trends. Chunky sneakers are an easy way to add individuality and flair for any outfit for most occasions. They are trendy and make a bold statement to help you stand out in a crowd.

Trainers are classics for everyone. They are typically seen in sports and athletic wear, but can easily change the tone of an outfit by dressing it down for more casual occasions. If you want something fancier, go for designer trainers to make it more stylish. Additionally, trainers are almost always comfortable since they are made for physical activities.

Sock Sneakers

Sock sneakers came into the mainstream after Balenciaga released their Speed Sneaker in 2016, which quickly spread throughout the fashion industry. Sock sneakers are the perfect piece to make the most basic outfit more interesting and add a bit of your own personality into your daily style.  These shoes are typically breathable, making them suitable for transitioning your wardrobe from winter to summer.
