11 Things Students With Jobs Go Through

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Working part-time and being a full-time student is tough work. Anyone who has been there knows the constant grind of trying to balance everything. Now that we’re older, it’s time to be responsible and take care of big girl things, but it’s also okay to admit to struggling sometimes.

1. There’s nothing more hilarious than when someone asks you to cover their shift at work.

Yeah right! With all the chapters I have to read and still haven’t read yet?

2. There’s really no time for “me time” any more.

We all have those weeks where we can’t find an inch of time to catch up on an episode of “New Girl” or even take a nap.

3. Being stuck at work while everyone else isn’t blows.

It’s always a sad moment when you’re on your break at work and see all your friends turning up without you.

4. When you finally get home from a long night at work, there’s no time for sleep.

You study until the morning hits and do it all again.

5. You’re never NOT tired.

Sometimes you just can’t help but show the world how tired you are.

6. Attempts at homework take forever. There will always be those essay introductions that you think are so powerful but end up being barely any progress.

7. Staying in and relaxing is better than a party sometimes.

Your friends will ask you to go out and you just can’t fade at all because you’ve been at work all day.

8. You can’t help but freak out.

Sometimes you just don’t know how you’re going to write a seven-page essay and read 80 pages of your book for literature class when you have to work an eight-hour shift the night before. Mental breakdown time.

9. You’re always zoning out thinking about finding time to balance work and school.

People notice sometimes. You just have to play it off.

10. You always dream about how life would be if you didn’t have to work.

It catches you off guard when you hear “my parents told me I don’t have to work.” It’s cool though, go you boo.

11. School will always come first.

There will be times where you get so fed up with your job because they can’t understand you’re a student too and there’s no other option.
