What Classes You Should Take Next Semester!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

Wondering what to take next semester? If you’re like me, AXLE and major requirements are a pain. Every time I’m on OAK deciding my perfect schedule, I try to balance classes that I want to take versus the ones that will fulfill my requirements.  I’m sure you’ve been asking around for the “easy” classes (we all know that’s relative at Vanderbilt). If you have any favorite classes that you recommend to friends, comment below! We’d love to hear them! As for now, here are some of my favorite classes that I’ve taken or that I’m looking forward to:

MUSL 152 Country Music. I’m sure you’ve already heard what a great class this is to take. If you have to load up on boring requirements (sorry Engineers and Pre-Med people) you should add Country Music to lighten your load while still getting hours. It’s a huge class that requires minimal effort. I’m banking on this class for my senior year!

MHS 250 Autism in Context. I recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn more about the disease. It was relatively easy with no tests, a few short papers, and only one group project (and it’s nothing to stress over!). Before this class, I only knew a few facts about autism but now I can explain all of its aspects to anyone who asks. This is a class to take if you’re looking for something both easy and interesting.

MUSL 103 Musical Theatre in America: A Cultural History. One of my favorite classes! Definitely an easy A and it’s so fun to watch all of the different musicals. Professor Lovensheimer is great and chooses fun material to teach about. Only a few short papers, which aren’t hard. Take this class! (Bonus: It counts as a humanities credit for AXLE)

PSY 1630 Developmental Psychology. This is a little ambiguous because I’ve heard bad reports about different professors’ teaching methods. However, my experience with this class was great. By only reading the book, I managed to get an A in the class. There were a few tests and one paper but (in my experience) going to class was only for the attendance grade. I was able to work on other projects while in class and still understand all of the material. Plus, most of it is really interesting!

NURS 231A/B Intro to Nutrition, Nutrition and Health. I loved these classes! Buying the book is NOT necessary. Professor Pope is so sweet and italicizes the important parts in her PowerPoints, so you know exactly what will be on the test. However, the tests are very specific so if you don’t study the PowerPoints you won’t do well. Other than that, this was an easy GPA booster.

Hopefully, these classes give you some ideas to inspire your class schedule next semester. If you’ve had any fun classes that you think everyone should take before graduation, let us know!

Stacey Oswald, originally from South Florida, came to Vanderbilt as a member of the class of 2015 and got involved with HerCampus her freshman year. She became assistant editor that year and is now the Campus Correspondent for Vanderbilt HC as a sophomore. Stacey is currently a columnist for Ask Miss A- Nashville and the life section of The Hustler. She's also very involved in her sorority, Kappa Delta, as well as Invisible Children. Outside of school and her extracurriculars, Stacey finds happiness in many sources, the most crucial being exercise and the sun. She loves to attend exercise classes and is an avid runner; she recently completed the Country Music Half Marathon. She also loves Vitamin D, especially when on the beach- though of course, she only soaks up the sun after applying SPF. A few of the things Stacey couldn't live without? Good food (especially from Sweet Cece's, Bricktops, and Samurai Sushi), great books (The Hypnotist's Love Story is a recent favorite), her family back in Florida, her wonderful boyfriend, and all of the great friends she's made at Vanderbilt.
