Stepping into Beta fraternity house, dressed in army green for the G.I. Joe theme, I looked at the scene surrounding me. Loud music was playing, red solo cups littered
the floor, people were dancing and laughing or catching up with friends. “So this is college,” I thought to myself. Not too shabby, Vanderbilt. After being banned from the fraternities for the entire first month of school, us freshmen were more than ready to get a taste of what college is all about: the frats.
Looking around the crowded room, all I could see were freshmen going at it, dancing on the dance floor and just having a good time. And I mean a really good time. The room was crowded with bodies all trying to get down with the music, and it didn’t take long for the room to feel like a million degrees. Everyone was hot and sweaty, but that didn’t stop us. I walked outside and felt my hair and it was like I had just taken a shower – that’s how hot it was in that house. All of the work my friends and I had put into our hair and makeup was clearly a waste, something we will have to keep in mind for our next fraternity outing.
Overall, the night was a success: no throwing up, no drunk tears or drama, and everyone seemed to be having the time of their lives. I think I can get used to this for the next four years…
