Fighting the Back-to-School Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

Usually by the end of a break, I’m dying to go back to school and see my friends again, but after a couple of weeks on campus, the blues hit and I wish I were at home doing nothing! Here are some easy ways to fight the blues, and ease your way back to being on campus.

Get dinner off campus

Being back on the meal-plan and eating the same foods can be such a bummer. Take this time to go and explore a new part of Nashville, and try a new restaurant! 12th South has some great restaurants, try Bar Taco!

Give yourself a rest day

Especially before all of the work starts to come in, take a day during syllabus week to do exactly what you would do at home – NOTHING!

Craft / Color

This is kind of like taking a day to do nothing, except you’re doing something, just not any schoolwork. Crafting can be really therapeutic, and if you’re going to be getting a (grand) little, this is the perfect time to add to the basket of gifts!

Spend less time in your dorm room

Being in that tiny space that belongs to you at all times can be a real bummer, so go outside as much as you can! Whether is hanging out between classes at Rand or a local café, not being isolated will help a lot!

Get to the gym

Working out such a great stress reliever in all situations, and can also help in the sense that you’ll find a new hobby! The Rec has great classes, and there are a ton of independent studios all around campus.
