Things We Miss About Being Kids

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

There is so much that comes with being a child and many of us look back on those days wishing the simplicity could have never ended. Here are some of the things I miss most!

Magic

Whether we believed in the Tooth Fairy, Santa Clause or day-to-day imagination, we all had a certain inexplicable feeling as children. Finding a dollar under our pillows, leaving out cookies or playing pretend, kids tend to have this sense of belief that stops at nothing.

Being Friends with Everyone

When we were young, for the most part, there was no immense jealousy. People didn’t care about monetary or social status.

Knowing Everything

Kids always know it all, right? Most of us going into our 20’s are learning that we basically know nothing. We are faced with daily challenges that test what we think we know, only to be proven that our wisdom is minimal at best.

Technology Being a Luxury

Remember when we couldn’t use the Internet and make a phone call at the same time? When the internet was used, it was with a purpose. We didn’t waste our entire days in front of a screen, we played outside!

When School Was Fun

Sometimes we would get gold stars and others, a toy from a treasure chest. Most of the days consisted of learning through fun games or engaging activities. We may not have looked forward to waking up everyday, but for the most part we had snacks, play time, and friends.

Feeling Unstoppable

People used to tell us we couldn’t do things and we would not take “No” for an answer! We had our dreams set higher than the sky and nothing could bring us down. We were fearless and incredibly ambitious.

Crazy enough, we’re all grown up now. There are days that we miss being six, and that’s okay. We may even learn something from reflecting on our younger selves. It certainly would not be bad thing for all of us to bring back a little of the childhood bliss into our adult lives. HCXO!
