Let’s Talk about Masturbation!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Why aren’t girls allowed to masturbate?

The one for sure way of achieving an orgasm, and oddly something people are hesitant to talk about: enter Masturbation. Americans are extremely hesitant when talking about Masturbation, especially when it pertains to women because according to traditional American ideals, women only exist to pleasure men. When I was caught watching porn I was swiftly reprimanded and disciplined, but no such punishment was given to either of my younger brothers when they got caught using other people’s devices to watch porn. There is a disconnect and a double standard when it comes to women’s satisfaction and sex. Women are taught from a young age that sex is something that is done to you and may not always be pleasurable, yet a similar narrative is no created for young boys.

However, women get horny too and deserve amazing orgasms, not just fake ones. Sometimes you don’t orgasm from vaginal penetration which is why it is important to know what your body likes and how you respond to different sexual stimuli. There is nothing wrong with masturbation. It is healthy and the safest way to explore your urges and all the ways to satisfy those urges.

The Clitoris and its amazing work

The clitoris is a wonderful bundle of nerves, and you should be good friends with yours. A clitoral orgasm is the most common among women and is easily achievable. So if you are not well acquainted with little pink below the hood, take your next free moment to get to know her. You can close your eyes and let your mind roam, or you can watch porn. There’s lots of bad porn out there because let’s be honest, the porn industry isn’t the best. However, I also feel like there is porn out there for everybody. So just find something you like. Everyone remembers their first time watching porn, and the first time they masturbated, so if you can’t, here’s a challenge for you.

Look for a pornographic video featuring people you find attractive, and do not masturbate (at first) wait until you’re stewing in your own juices, then freely DJ the night away.

Obviously, men get more leeway on the subject of masturbation, so ladies, if your man isn’t comfortable with your self-exploration, he shouldn’t be your man. Masturbation doesn’t just satisfy you, it familiarizes you with your sexual tastes and your vagina which is important for overall vaginal health. Once you know what you like, you can start to amp up your private pleasure sessions. Maybe you want to add a vibe for more clitoral stimulation, or nipple clamps for extra sensitivity. Try delving into different things outside of the vanilla by yourself before bringing the idea to a partner. This is just to ensure you like the activity before putting your pleasure in the hands of another individual. The nipples are very sensitive, and do not neglect them during your personal play.

Vaginally Penetrate Yourself

Take risks and try a dildo. They have a suction cup kind that you can suction to a surface and thrust against and ones that move on their own. Dildos and vibrators are great but do not always guarantee an orgasm, so mix vaginal penetration with other types of stimulation because this time is all about you! Anal play is also something that you should try at least one but definitely slow and definitely with lube. No one is there to judge you when it’s just you by yourself ladies. Orgasm in Peace!

“Some men believe a girl squirting under their touch is a sign of their own sex appeal and machismo. It seems a shame to pee on their parade, but the truth is, the methodical throb of a vibrator in the right place and in the right hands – even your own hand – achieves more consistent results.”
