Humans of Valdosta: Campus Celebrity Deiera Evans

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Year: Senior graduating in May 2015

Major: Double major in marketing & management

Organizations That You Are In:

  • President of The Distinguished Women of Excellence
  • Media Arts Geniuses
  • Deep Release Poetry Society
  • Poetic Magic (off Campus)

HC: Why are you a double major in marketing and management and what do you want to do with that degree?

I major in business management because my life goal is to start a nonprofit organization to help homeless people. I like marketing because it incorporates psychology, sociology, anthropology, art, mass media and communications. It’s a very versatile major. I’m not sure exactly what I want to do with it yet, but I’ll probably spend a few years working for an advertising agency.

HC: Who inspires you and why?

I am inspired by my momma, my daddy and Princess Diana. Education has always been incredibly important to my parents. All three of us are in school right now. I’m inspired by their persistence, intelligence and their beautiful hearts. I admire Princess Diana because she was a humanitarian who impacted lives all over the world. During the time when people with AIDS were seen as untouchable, she would hug them and treat them well. It says a lot about her that she didn’t let her royalty keep her from treating people the way they should be treated. I love people with good hearts!

HC: What makes you truly happy?

Helping people makes me happy. I looooove making people smile or feel good about themselves.

HC: How do you manage your time?

I don’t really know how I manage my time. I just do what I need to do when I need to do it. I don’t commit to things that I might not be able to accomplish by the deadline.

HC: What would you like to gain from VSU when you graduate?

I want to have the skills that I need to be successful.

HC: If there was a superlative during your last year at VSU, what would you think people would call you?
