How Viola Davis Made Emmy History

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

This past weekend was the 67th Annual Emmy awards and Viola Davis made history. She is the first African American woman ever to win an Emmy for oustanding female actress in a drama series. If you’re not familiar with her name I’m sure you’ve seen her face. You guys can watch her on How to Get Away with Murder, better known as Professor Keating. If you love her acting in HTGAWM, check out her other roles. She received the award for a reason, that woman has talent!

Viola Davis’s acceptance speech was short but she said everything she needed to say .There are multiple issues with the film industry, African American Women aren’t the only minorities effected either. African American Males, Hispanic men and women, Asian men and women, the list goes on and on. But changes are being made and this is a time to celebrate!
