Fall 2019: A Reflection

Hello beautiful ladies!

As this semester comes to an end, I would like to share my sentiments on how it went.

As some of you know, this is my first semester back in college in three years. It wasn’t hard to get back into the hustle and bustle of college life, but I gained something that I didn’t have before: a social life.

I’m not the most social person, but I took it upon myself to go out and join various student orgs. I’m extremely happy to find friends within Her Campus Valdosta and a few other student orgs. I learned early on that balancing the two is very important because you don’t want to waste your time and money because of too much fun. For the first four weeks, my teachers didn’t even know I had a voice because my social anxiety was at an all-time high. As the semester went on, I came out of my shell little by little. I’m not completely out, but thank you to the ones who didn’t/won’t give up on me. I appreciate y’all a lot. Since I don’t have a definite friend group here, calls to my mom, (mostly), dad, and texts to my best friend Sed are almost daily. I know they probably got tired of me calling to complain, but I appreciate them not dismissing me when I was homesick or when I called/text to turn into the crybaby who just wants love (and yes, at my big age, I’m still a crybaby. Leave me alone).

Days before homecoming week, I got into a car accident, which really dampened my entire mood. It shouldn’t have ‘cause I’m still alive and well, but I’ve been without a car for a while. Nonetheless, homecoming was really fun. On top of that, Mercury Retrograde made its rounds, ruining any possible relationship established weeks prior. I was a distraught mess, but I was optimistic things would get better. Nothing has gotten better in my eyes, but I am very grateful to be here.

All in all, it has been an interesting semester. I’m tired, mentally and physically. I’ve learned that grades are forever, insurance companies are trash, and being socially awkward will ruin any type of relationship you're tryna establish. I'm mentally and physically tired. I'm ready to go back home and be with my family. I need a HARD reset.

I hope everyone had a better semester than I did! Good luck with finals! Hope everyone has a Merry merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

With love + better days,

-Marissa Auriell
