When it comes to declaring a major, many of us arrive at college with one in mind. But sometimes after that first semester of biochemistry you begin to second guess if becoming a mad scientist is really a good idea. Or maybe you don’t know what you want to be so you take tons of random classes to get an idea. It is okay collegiates! Trying to determine what you want to do for pretty much the rest of your life is no easy decision. Don’t let the pressure from parents or fellow classmates rush or make your decision. You have to find a career that is best for you. Ok, so how do you choose your major?

Step 1: Think about things you like to do and what interest you

You can start by making a list of your interest. Jot down things you would like in a career, things like a chance to travel the world or schedule flexibility. Think about whether you like to work on your feet or sit behind the desk, whether you enjoy long work days or to work from home.

Step 2: Do some research

Once you know what you are looking for. Take time and look up careers that coincide with your interest. Make sure to look at entry salaries and the opportunity for promotion and requirements for the job title.

Step 3: Narrow down your choices

After you have done your research choose two or three jobs that really interest. Make another list of pros and cons of each job and choose the one with the most pros.

Step 4: All done

Take the career you’ve chosen and run with it. Declare your major and get started on your journey!
