YA books dominated the 2010s. These books were everywhere from movie adaptions to online fandoms. If you were a reader during the 2010s then chances are you probably read a book from that time that consumed your life in an unhealthy way. This is a judgement free zone where I tell you what your favourite 2010s YA book says about you now.

Hunger Games

You could argue that Hunger Games really changed the game. The dystopian YA craze of the 2010s was quite literally created by this book. This series has had an immense influence on YA literature and pop culture.

If the Hunger Games was your favourite YA book then you are probably stressing about school right now. You are probably involved in 10 school clubs and have a niche hobby that you excel at. You are the backbone of your friend group and everyone can count on you. Deep inside, you believe that if an apocalypse were to happen, you would not only survive but lead your friends and family. You go boss babe!

Divergent

Divergent was much like Harry Potter in the sense that everyone was obligated to reveal which faction they belonged to. This book was everything anyone talked about until Allegiant happened, but hey, at least she gets to live on in the movie series, right?

If you loved Divergent then you recently overcame the impossible (ordering your own food). You’re a Dauntless at heart but not in practice and that’s okay! Your mom still makes your dentist appointments. You think you’re in your Reputation Era, but you’re most likely in your Fearless Era; you’re still trying to find yourself. You’re 90% there, so keep going girl!

The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars had everyone in a chokehold, and who can blame them. From the 10/10 soundtrack, being the inspiration for the greatest vine ever to exist, and the iconic quotes, everyone was tuned in.

If the Fault in Our Stars was your favourite book during this era, then you probably have or had a sad girl Spotify playlist. You purposely watch sad movies and cry at the sad and happy scenes. Once in a while you think about that video of the raccoon washing  cotton candy and you cry all over again. Hang in there girl!

The Mortal Instruments series

The Mortal Instruments series was one of those books that you found a community in. You probably tried to re-read the old books just to feel an ounce of the magic you felt back then.

You read City of Bones when you were like 12, and now you’re stuck in the Shadowhunters’ universe. You love committing to absurdly long shows, film series, and basically everything else. You love the Marvel Cinematic Universe and you probably tweet at directors to give your favourite side character a mini series. You’re a dedicated fan and know everything there is to know about your favourite media. There is also an 80% chance you argue with strangers on the internet defending your favourite problematic character. Put the phone down girl!
