February is the second month on the Gregorian calendar, sitting right between January and March. Typically, February is a rather cold month, with some pretty harsh weather throughout. At first glance, February is not very eye-catching, but  when you take the time to lift the veil that covers the seemingly plain, you’ll uncover the divine truth of February.

In my eyes, February is a month that circulates power and love, the two attributes that perfectly represent what femininity is. As girls, it is unfortunately common for our femininity to be weaponized against us in more ways than one, but I believe that February is an exquisite month for us to take back our femininity for our pleasure and nobody else’s; February was created for us.

The Name

The name “February” comes from the Latin word februa, which means “to cleanse.” The ancient Romans called this month Februarius, during which time they celebrated the festival Februalia. Februalia was celebrated in honour of the Roman God Februus, the God of purifications and to whom the month of Februarius was dedicated, and the Roman Goddess Vesta, the Goddess of hearth, home, and family. Februalia was a time for prayers, offerings, and sacrifices. It was seen as a beautiful and spiritual time, and it was a great time to start anew.

The Astrology

February is the month where the Aquarius season ends and the Pisces season begins. The Aquarius season can be seen as a time where things are up in the air –where anything can happen and everything is possible. The Pisces season is a period where emotions are high and full; connections are all over, and relationships with others are super important. This is just such a beautiful month full of luck and love! I believe whether you follow astrology or not, you can agree that those are some glorious things to focus on and work towards during the month.

Valentines’ Day

Most prevalently, February is home to Valentines’ Day. Love is in the air with the scent of roses and chocolate! Cupid, the God of erotic love, desire, and affection, has been coined as the symbol of Valentines’ Day, and for good reason. Valentine’s Day is the best justification for showering the world with love and passion. The feminine urge to make heart-shaped treats, wear pink, and make everything red is too real. It is just the perfect holiday for the perfect month.

My takeaway from this is that when you look a little closer, February is simply tranquil. February is magnificent and a perfect time to embrace our femininity just a little more than usual. It is something I myself will have to work on, but this is one of the many things that makes me so happy to be a woman.

Hi I'm Liv! I am currently studying Forensic Science at the University of Windsor. I love being outside, going on hikes, kayaking, rowing, and goodness I could just go on and on. I am often listening to music, listening to a good podcast, watching a film, or talking (arguing) about any one of those!
