After listening to a song from the One Piece live action series, “My Sails Are Set”, by Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli featuring AURORA, I got very hooked to our lovely featured artist. Lately, I’ve been listening to nothing but AURORA, and I swear, listening to her voice is like an addiction I can’t shake off. Her lyrics are so captivatingly poetic, and her voice is simply divine. So here are, by far, my personal favourite songs by our Norwegian princess!

It Happened Quiet

Album: Infections of a Different Kind – Step 1

Favourite lyrics: Don’t you speak over my voice, I will return from the shadows

This song can be interpreted in many different ways. It feels very personal, and her voice ranges from gentle to intense as the song progresses. This was the first song I listened to after I decided to explore her music further, and I was mesmerized. I knew her music was something unique and special when I listened to this song and I absolutely love how relatable the lyrics feel!

Black Water Lilies

Album: All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend – Deluxe

Favourite lyrics: I’m diving into the ocean, a thousand black water lilies

This song is so aesthetically pleasing to listen to. According to AURORA, the song came to her in a dream! It certainly sounds like a strange but beautiful dream when you listen to the words. I especially love the paradoxical aspect of the song – she’s under and above, she’s floating on the river while she’s underwater. The whole song is like a very vivid painting!

Murder Song (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) – Acoustic

Album: All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend – Deluxe

Favourite lyrics: I know he knows that he’s killing me for mercy

The lyrics to this song are so incredibly intense and chilling. When you listen to the words closely, it sounds like a very tragic love story. The man in the song is killing the girl because he loves her. It feels so abusive and so very tragic, almost like a play by William Shakespeare. Every time I listen to the countdown, “5, 4, 3, 2, 1,” I get shivers.

Through the Eyes of a Child

Album: All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend

Favourite lyrics: I would rather feel alive with a childlike soul

This song feels very somber and heavyhearted. It makes me think of people who were forced to grow up too fast, who never got to experience their childhood. I can also see this as a song about grown adults who wish to experience the innocence of a child again. It’s nostalgic, but in a very solemn way. The gentleness of AURORA’s voice makes my eyes water a little bit.

Exist For Love

Album: The Gods We Can Touch

Favourite lyrics: I know I cannot heal the hurt, but I will hold you here forever if I can

Butterflies in the stomach! The type of love that AURORA sings about is the type that everyone deserves. To feel like the very purpose of your existence is to meet your other half, to feel safe and beautiful when you’re with this person – everyone needs this!

Blood In The Wine

Album: The Gods We Can Touch

Favourite lyrics: Young river in your hands, and grass burning in promised lands

The beauty about this song is the complexity of it. As someone who finds religion very fascinating, this song captivates me in a unique way. It explores how complex and complicated faith can be. I feel like there’s a struggle in this song, as though somebody is religiously compromised. It’s very intense, and AURORA’s voice becomes very powerful in the chorus.

I have a long list of songs that I have yet to listen to by AURORA, like “A Potion For Love”, “Animal”, “Queendom”, and “Warrior”. I’m very excited to listen to more! And if you haven’t listened to her music yet, what the heck are you waiting for? Do it now!
