What Should I Wear This Valentine’s Day?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

Whether you are in a relationship, single and ready to mingle, or just happily single, Valentine’s Day is a great dress up opportunity. And no, that does not mean wearing all pink or clothing decked out in hearts; it is about embracing the spirit of the holiday. Not sure what to wear? Check out my personalized guide on what you should wear this Valentine’s Day:

In a Relationship

Valentine’s Day is an opportunity for you and your significant other to celebrate your relationship, so it is totally worth getting a little dressed up. Depending on how long you two have been together you can wear the same outfit you wore on your first date; it’s a great way to have fun with the holiday and also laugh at how awkward you dressed back in the day. On the other hand, you can wear something meaningful e.g.: that dress they loved on you, the necklace they got you for your birthday, or their favorite color.

Single and Ready to Mingle

Don’t panic, you may not have a significant other, but who knows, Valentine’s Day might be your lucky day. Whether you are going to a Valentine’s party or out to dinner with some friends, you need to celebrate yourself. You can do so by wearing something that makes you feel totally awesome and fabulous. The confidence and self-love that you exude will shine through and make people notice (read: cute, potential dates). Please, nothing too flashy looking—the simpler the better.

Happily Single

You’re doing your own thing and are totally content with that. You don’t need a significant other in your life right now and should still be allowed to celebrate on Valentine’s Day. Rather than thinking about what your boyfriend or girlfriend likes you to wear you can focus all on what makes you feel the most like yourself. Get together with some friends or chill by yourself: eat your favorite foods, listen to your favorite music, and just celebrate being your awesome self—all while wearing your favorite leggings, dress, or accessories.
