The Perks of Dating a Hispanic

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

I never really thought about who I would end up in a long-term relationship with, mostly because it didn’t matter to me. That was until I met my now boyfriend who is Hispanic. In the past year and a half of dating, I have learned so much more than in past relationships with guys who have had similar backgrounds of mine. I like to call them perks because that is essentially what they are to me. Here are some of the perks I have gained by being in my interracial relationship.

You get to try new foods

In my case, I have gotten to opportunity to try all kinds of foods (and I love it!) Every time I go over to his parent’s house, I am pleasantly surprised, and if I am lucky, they will teach me how to make some of the dishes.

Everything sounds nicer in Spanish

He could be calling me names in Spanish and I would still say thank you. It is a fact that everything sounds better in Spanish.

Pretty babies

I haven’t experienced this firsthand yet, but I can tell you that those babies are going to be beautiful. Curly black hair? Yes please.

You get to experience their traditions

If you have never been to a quinceanera, I would highly advise it purely for the cultural experience. The music is so loud it will blow your eardrums and all the songs sounds the same but it’s great.

Learning incredible facts about Hispanic culture

Whether it be the stores that I didn’t even know existed, or just discovering the differences between my culture and theirs, I am always learning and I am enjoying every minute of it.
