We are walking through campus, warm beverages in hand, sweaters pulled tight to keep that brisk breeze away, and all while crunching atop the leaves underfoot. IT IS FALL!! A magical season that brings out everyone’s inner typical white girl.  Here at Stout and in Wisconsin, we know that leaves falling leads to snow falling. So, let’s embrace this season while it’s here by treating ourselves to some of the best foods that fall has to offer.

  1. Orchard-Fresh Caramel Apples

The first thing you must eat is a fall classic. The sweet caramel with the tart apple is pleasure for the taste buds. It is also a great choice because with the changing weather it is important to keep up your health, and you know as they say, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away!”  Even if covered in sugar.

  1. Kettle Corn

Kettle corn is a fall necessity. Whether in a popcorn ball or straight from the bag there is nothing better to snack upon while curling up and watching some classic Halloween movies.  Even the Sanderson sisters would approve.

  1. Pumpkin Spice Latte

They don’t lie when they say that pumpkin spice is in the air.  Every coffee shop, bakery, and cafeteria boasts of their novelty pumpkin spice foods sure to complete your day. Yes, maybe it is a little stereotypical, but you can’t go through fall without getting a pumpkin specialty coffee at least once.

  1. Acorn Squash

Squash is at its prime during this season and you can buy it at a reasonable price. While it has many health benefits for you, it’s also very delicious when baked with a little butter and salt.  Acorn squash is sweet and savory and would be a wonderful fall accompaniment alongside any meal.

  1. Pumpkin Seeds

An obvious must-eat this season. After the intensive pumpkin carving to prepare the house for Halloween you will have tons of leftover pumpkin seeds.  It is cheap and easy to clean them off and roast them with a little seasoning salt.  Great to eat alone or add them to your favorite fall trail mix.

  1. Mulled Spiced Cider

For the colder fall nights, sipping a hot mulled spiced cider will warm you from the inside, out. You can stick with the original recipe or try to switch it up by adding some interesting ingredients or some alcohol to make a seasonal cocktail. You can also make mulled spiced wine using the same method as cider with any red wine variety that would surely impress guests at holiday parties.

  1. Hot Dish/ Casserole

Being from the Midwest, we are no strangers to a well-made hot dish or casserole.  Brush off the dust on grandma’s old recipe and you can make an easy and delicious warm meal for you and to share with some friends. It’s filling, and Grandma will be happy, even if she knows hers is still better.

  1. Warm Apple Crisp

A throwback to childhood when you would come home from school and there was a warm apple crisp made that day as an after school snack. Buy from a bakery or even better: spend a day at the orchard, collecting apples to make one yourself! Also, be sure to remember a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  1. Candy Corn with Peanuts

The last must-eat of fall is a most famous mix. A perfect balance of salty and sweet that is sure to satisfy any appetite, candy corn and peanut mix is also a wonderful snack to keep out on decorated tables as a casual walk-by bite!

Are you committed to the fall lifestyle? If so, have fun eating all of these amazing treats this season!
