The fashion industry is ridiculously competitive. It is not enough to make an effort with your outfits—you have to wear the most unique, attention-grabbing garments to catch people’s attention. In recent years this often has taken the form of edgy clothing, or, in other words: bad girl fashion. To showcase some of the edgy trendsetters of the past and present day, here are the top five bad girls of fashion.

1. Kate Moss: The original bad girl of fashion. She led the “Heroin Chic” trend of the 1990’s with her party girl, waif-like appearance.

2. Taylor Momsen: Remember Jenny Humphrey from Gossip Girl? Well, Little J traded her preppy, good-girl style a few years ago for her lingerie, pantsless current ensemble when she created the band, The Pretty Reckless.

3. Rihanna: From drug adorned crop tops and trucker hats to her famous angular haircut, she has led the latest edgy fashion craze with her bold looks.

4. Cara Delevingne: Aside from being one of the top models in the world, Cara succeeds at honing a certain nonchalant, casual style. She frequently sports grungy menswear inspired pieces, and of course, many beanies.

5. Miley Cyrus: This former Hannah Montana star has completely revolutionized her style. She wears giant teddy bear backpacks, cutout bodysuits, graphic print crop tops, and let’s not forget the infamous tongue.

Abigail is a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. She is majoring in Retail Merchandising and Management with a concentration in Fashion Marketing and has a double minor in Business Administration and Spanish. Aside from being a Style Writer for Her Campus, she is involved with Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) and Street Level Ministries. In her spare time she enjoys collecting art, watching Hallmark movies with family and friends, and going on adventures.
