Attacks in Paris Shock the World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

November 13, 2015, is a day that will not soon be forgotten in France or the rest of the world. That night, terrorists attacked six locations in Paris. The most casualties occurred at Bataclan concert hall during a performance by American band Eagles of Death Metal. It was here where at least 80 people died. But this is a mere fraction of the 129 killed and 352 wounded throughout the city.

Just the day before, a deadly suicide bombing took place in Beirut, Lebanon, killing over 40 people. The Islamic extremist group ISIS has claimed credit for both of these attacks, as well as several other attacks over the last year including the downing of a Russian passenger jet that killed all 224 on board.

“France is at war,” declared French President Francois Hollande. In a speech to a joint session of parliament, Hollande said France would intensify its attacks on ISIS, as well as call for a U.N. Security Council meeting to address the terrorist group. “Terrorism will not destroy France, because France will destroy it,” Hollande said.
