With so much isolation and social distancing going on, we’re in uncharted territory when it comes to figuring out how to spend our time. If you’re used to spending yours with other people, it’s time to adapt. For me, that’s meant getting in with the video game community through Twitch, which can be kind of crazy if you don’t have experience with video games or streaming. It comes with a lot of thoughts, questions, and opinions. Here were some of mine when I first got into it…
1. Why is it called Twitch?
2. Should I be twitching while watching this?
3. Should the streamer be twitching?
4. Twitches was a good movie
5. Is this like Instagram live with more ambition?
6. When I get a notification that somebody is streaming am I supposed to jump on that, or is it cool to wait?
7. There’s a chat option!
8. So many possibilities
9. Should I ask questions about the game?
10. I don’t have any questions about the game
11. I wonder if the streamer can see the comments
12. Oh…they totally can
13. They figured out who I am really quickly
14. So everyone knows who I am now
15. I chose the least conspicuous Twitch name in history
16. Why are there so many people watching this?
17. And why do they have little icons next to their names?
18. I wonder if Twitch influencers are a thing
19. We got the streamer to dab!
20. This is power I didn’t know I needed
21. Why is it this game though?
22. I wanna watch somebody play an EA game
23. The graphics are pretty cool
24. The soundtrack is a banger
25. Imagine owning a green screen
26. Imagine live streaming your face for 2+ hours a night
27. Imagine trying to concentrate on something while you’re live streaming your face for 2+ hours a night
28. Performance anxiety
29. It is pretty interesting to see somebody work out a strategy game in real time
30. What’s the craziest thing I can say in this chat to get a reaction out of the streamer?
31. What if I give them really bad advice on playing the game?
32. It’s impossible to get a crazy reaction from this streamer
33. That’s representative heuristics
34. I missed talking to people
35. This is on Discord too?!
36. So this is actually way cooler than I expected. When do they do it again?
I didn’t think it was possible, but I’ve gotten really into Twitch over the last few weeks. The streamer that I usually watch refers to me as their most eager supporter, which is a level of validation I didn’t know I wanted. Would definitely recommend!
