7 Things to do with Left Over Easter Candy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Lax chapter.

Easter weekend is great for many reasons. Most of us head home for the weekend and head back to our hometowns to spend some quality time with our families, and most of the time we find ourselves with loads and loads of candy from the weekend that we don’t know what to do with. If you feel like you’ve had enough Easter candy for a lifetime, there are many other things you can do with your candy. There are about a billion different recipes out there that use up extra candy, but here are just a few that I know I’m going to be doing for the next week to get rid of all of this candy. Even if you don’t celebrate Easter, take advantage of all the candy sales that will be going on for the next few days and give these ideas a try!

1. Make cookies—Those Easter M&M’s are perfect to put in your cookie dough. Switch up the basic chocolate chip cookie and swap those chocolate chips for M&M’s.

2. Melt the chocolate—There are so many different things you can do with melted chocolate! Make your own kind of chocolate fountain with pretzels, strawberries and really anything else, because chocolate tastes good with most things.

3. Make Chex mix— Everyone loves some good Chex mix as a snack, but instead of buying your own premade Chex mix at the store, make your own. Use up some of that extra candy by adding it to your Chex mix.

4. Throw a movie night with some friends—If you somehow ended up with excessive amounts of candy this Easter weekend that you can’t even imagine eating all, plan a movie night with some friends. Plan it during the week as a stress reliever for you and your friends, because who wouldn’t want to come to a movie night with candy.

5. Make caramel dip for some apples—Don’t know what to do with all of your caramel chocolates? Try to make the chocolate semi healthy by melting the chocolate and using it as a caramel-chocolate dip for some apples. Just put the chocolate in a bowl and place them in the microwave and keep an eye on them. Cut up some apples and you’re good to go as a bit healthier alternative, while still soothing your sugar tooth.

6. Use it as a reward for doing your homework and studying—At this point in the game, I think we could all use a little kick and motivation to get us to the end of the semester. Next time you find yourself stuck in a rut with no motivation, use the candy as a motivator. For example, for every page you read out of your text book treat yourself to a piece of candy.

7. Give to others—If you’ve really had enough candy and chocolate and you can’t even think about eating another piece, give some to people around campus! I know a few people that have a bag of candy at all times hanging outside their dorm door for people to take as they pass. If you do this, I guarantee you that you’re candy will be gone in no time!
