No matter how much you love college, it’s impossible to not miss home even just a little bit. Here are some self-care and familiar activities that will minimize that homesickness!

  1. A cup of hot chocolate

It doesn’t have to be winter to enjoy this delicious beverage! Even just the first few sips will send you back to holidays at home with loved ones.

2. Movie Marathon with friends

There’s nothing like a good night in with friends. A binge watch is just what you need to relieve stress and return to your at-home roots.

3. Buffet-style dinner

You don’t need anything extravagant or hard to cook! Gather a few friends, and have everyone bring their favorite dish. Not only will you have a taste of home, so will all your closet friends.

4. Shopping trip

Whether it’s for you or upcoming holiday preparations, shopping is an easy activity to distract you from other stresses!

5. Calls back home

Just because you can’t be home doesn’t mean you can’t call your loved ones! A quick phone call never hurt anyone, and a phone call will give you a sneak peak of what you’re going back to.

However you spend the next few weeks before Thanksgiving, enjoy them! You’re never alone in your homesickness, and just remember, you’ll be home before you know it.

I am a first-year student in the college of arts and sciences on a pre-commerce track. I am originally from Northern Virginia, and I am so excited to be at UVA! I love reading and writing which is what inspired me to join Her Campus here at UVA. I cannot wait to see what the year has in the store!
