Halloween Makeup Tips

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Halloween is the one time of the year you can experiment with your makeup and not have to use a whole box of Kleenex to fix it again. Here are some simple ways to do your Halloween makeup.

1.     The lazy way- for those of you that aren’t quite so inspired to go all out for Halloween, this is the easiest way to still look scary and put in minimal effort. An overdone smoky eye will add a dramatic effect to any costume. Lightly brush light grey eye shadow over your lid and add a darker grey around the outer lid. Finish up with fierce carbon black liquid eyeliner on both your lash line and water line and your smoky eye is complete. Another lazy tip is lining your lip with dark lip liner to really bring out that Dracula- type look.  Another easy tip is to smudge any makeup you put on especially eyeliner. Perhaps the way to scare the most people is to go makeup-less (just kidding).

2.     The Princess way- Let’s face it. Some of us don’t take Halloween on as a “scary” holiday.  Our Halloween costumes are probably more cute than scary. We just use as an opportunity for grown-up dress-up. If Halloween is more of a primping day for you, you can go get a mani-pedi and prepare to get dolled-up. You can act like Halloween is a formal and dress up in layers of satin, silk, and pearls. Also, you get the opportunity to sport that tiara you only get to pull out on your birthday.

3.     Good Girl Gone Bad Way- If you’re the girl who’s usually shy with her makeup and who sticks to neutrals and a no-makeup makeup look most of the time, then go ahead and try a bold and daring look you wouldn’t wear everyday. That’s right, its time to actually try that red lipstick everyone’s been raving about, but you weren’t quite sure about. One option is to wear a jewel colored eye shadow or even crystal-encrusted false eyelashes.  You can even overdo your blush without fear of it looking like a rash and call it “Halloween.”

4.     The True Artist- For those who are truly passionate about their costume and have everything well planned and put together. Since you put so much effort into everything else, don’t let your makeup suffer. Treat your face like a canvas.  Remember that you’re free to change the boundaries of your face with makeup. You can use black eyeliner to draw on spots for that Cheetah costume or red lipstick to smear some “blood” on your neck, the possibilities are endless with just a little makeup.
