Fashionable Bones You Shouldn’t Overlook

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Do you know the two most underrated parts of your body? I bet you didn’t guess clavicle and scapula. And yes, I mean your collarbone and the back of your shoulder. Now before you stop reading and go back to your plunging neckline and chunky necklace ways, take a second to hear me out.  Each of these bones has enjoyed their moment in the fashion spotlight, and for good reason. They allow us girls to show off our figures effortlessly. In other words, wearing clothes that feature your neck and back make you look both alluring and classy.

Take the clavicle, for example. You don’t need to wear super tight fitting clothing to let people know you’re in great shape. Just a glimpse of your slightly protruding collarbones will convince anyone of your slender figure while leaving the details up to the imagination.

And then there’s the scapula. An article from fashionologie.com comments that fashions showing off the back “give us all a chance to stare at a beautiful woman’s back as she goes into her powerful future.” And who doesn’t want that kind of attention?

Of course, pretty bones and protruding bones are two different things. There’s no need to try to imitate Natalie Portman in Black Swan. We were definitely not staring at her because she was going into a powerful future. You don’t need to be bony to be proud of your bones.

So now all that’s left is a shopping trip. The next time you’re looking for clothes to go out in, look for dresses or shirts that have low cut backs. And instead of going for heavy necklaces, look for necklaces that don’t cover up your clavicle – or you could really go wild and skip one altogether!  Either way, you’ve got two great assets you can start showing off.
