You may have heard him DJ at Dance Night or maybe at your favorite frat. Meet DJ Le Feb, aka JP Lefebvre, a 4th year foreign affairs major.  He’s been mixing for only two years but still wows the crowds whether he’s playing at Penn State, Richmond, or on the Corner.

Q: How did you first get into mixing?
A:I had some friends that started mixing earlier than I did. I’ve always wanted to do it. Also, I’ve always been into house, electro, dubstep, drum and bass, and moombahton.

Q: What is moombahton?
A: Moombahton is very new. It was created about two years ago by Dave Nada. It’s basically house music that has been slowed down to 108 bpms. It’s slower than dubstep and has some reggaeton influences.  It’s really fun and easy to dance to, especially for a bar crowd. I think it will explode here.

Q: What’s your ideal gig?
A: Late night gigs are my favorite.  People are there to listen to the type of music I like. I generally don’t get to play what I like at bars. I have to play standard radio music but I work in some electro and remixes. At late night gigs I can play a lot heavier music that I usually can’t get away with at bars.  Phi psi’s late night so far has been the best.

Q: Aside from mixing, what do you like to do in your free time?
A:I like to lift and recently, I started boxing.  This summer I was interning in Switzerland, but living in France (right outside the border).  I found a competitor gym 3 minutes away and practiced almost everyday after work.  I think I am going to continue boxing and see what the UVA club has to offer. Besides that, I’m pretty lazy. I’m just trying to get a hold on 4th year. I mean, I mix in my free time too. It’s my job but at the same time, it’s my hobby. It’s definitely not a career path though. It’s not what I’m going to be doing when I get out of school.

Q: In ten years, where do you see yourself?
A: In a consulting firm, hopefully, or running my own business.

Q: Who are your inspirations?
A:As far as music goes, my friend from back home Reza. He has been DJing for about ten years, so I seek a lot of advice from him. He mixes a lot in DC and has opened for some really big names. In my life, my parents are my greatest inspiration.

Q: What’s your most embarrassing moment?
A:  One time at an airport, I carried a huge bottle of tequila for my dad in my backpack. I put my backpack down kind of hard by mistake and the bottle shattered. It spilled out of my bag and I reeked of tequila for the rest of the day. It was a huge ordeal.

Q: What’s the best part about mixing?
A:  You get instant gratification. You can see the crowd go crazy when you make a good drop.
