5 Easy Holiday Themed DIYs To Try This Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! As I sat in my dorm room, nestled under a mound of blankets and blasting Christmas music, I noticed how bare my walls were looking. If you are feeling the same way about your dorm room or apartment, and have officially refused to be a “Scrooge” when it comes to holiday decorations, I have the perfect list of cute, easy, and inexpensive DIYs you can make to spruce things up. This list will get you in the Christmas spirit this season and for many seasons to come!

1. Christmas Tree Cones

Since apparently real Christmas trees in dorm rooms are a fire-hazard or something (tears up), these little trees will do the job! Simply glue festive colored string around a topiary foam cone, and decorate with little “ornaments” made from buttons. Feel free to add tinsel or glitter as necessary, no judgement here.

2. Little Town of Bethlehem

This cute little town is really for the birds! Repurpose mini bird-houses into a mini village. Add some garland and fake snow to really add some holiday magic into the mix! With some flameless tea lights placed inside the birdhouses, you can imagine Santa’s little elves plodding away, hard at work on some Christmas goodies!

3. Holiday Sweets

If you are feeling really lazy or are short on space, this little holiday décor piece is for you! Fill a dollar store candy jar with some holiday themed lightbulbs, and presto, your desk is transformed into a holiday oasis!

4. Shadows of Christmas

If you are in need of a piece of décor that will last you for years to come, and that can act as a statement piece in your apartment, this holiday transformation on the traditional shadow box is perfect for you! Simply glue the ornaments and some holiday themed scrapbook paper inside the box, and then display it so everyone is jealous of your mad crafting skills.

5. Nifty Ornaments

If you are lucky enough to have space for Christmas tree but some DIY decorations to spice it up, these repurposed household items are the perfect solution! A little spray paint and a ribbon are enough to transform a whole room!
