Summer Classes: A Definite Must

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UTSA chapter.

As the summer approaches, all you can think about is the vacations you’ve saved up for, the Netflix shows you can’t wait to binge, floating the Guadalupe River, and all the poolside sun you’re going to soak up. I know this doesn’t sound as appealing as sunkissed skin, but it’s a great time to squeeze in some extra courses. Over my 4 years in college, I’ve taken at least 3 classes each summer and I’ve benefited so much from it. Here’s some advice if you’re debating summer classes:

1.     If you’re still getting used to the large 300+ classes and don’t like the big setting, summer classes are always so much smaller.

2.     If you like fast paced, get to the point classes — Although it sucks having class more often in the week than in the regular semesters, you knock out a whole semester worth of work in 4 weeks.

3.     If you want to get ahead on graduation, summer time is a great time to get through those courses.

4.     If you have to retake any classes, don’t waste a whole other semester, take a 5 week course instead.

5.     If you’re going abroad through a program or even a vacation, there’s’ different time frames for the courses, so I’m sure you can find the perfect class to fit your summer trips.

6.     If you want to boost your GPA, take some easier electives and score an A.

7.     If you’re the type of person who needs to stay in the constant school groove, boom, UTSA is still open.

8.     If you like front row parking…. Summer classes.

Honestly, just take a few courses, I promise you won’t regret it.
