Online dating? How To Know If You Should Swipe Right Or Left

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UTSA chapter.

Are you on Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, or any other dating apps? The online dating world isn’t for the weak. Here’s a list of red flags to keep in mind while you’re swiping.

Swipe left if…

They have no pictures of themselves

If it’s just their name and a picture of a dark screen then immediately swipe left! This could lead to catfishing and it’s better to watch the show than to live it.

They list “entrepreneur” as their job

All I’m saying is to make sure it’s not a pyramid scheme.

They have zero social media listed on their profile

This goes back to catfishing. If they truly don’t have social media and like to live off the grid then maybe set up a video call to make sure they’re who they say they are.

They have no bio

How are you supposed to send a witty (yet slightly flirty) message first if they give you nothing to work with?

Their bio has more than one paragraph

We just need the cliff notes. Let’s talk about the rest on a date.

They say they don’t message first

Sometimes life gets too busy to be the one to message first. But also…don’t be shy, message me first if I don’t.

They have a list of requirements for you to swipe right

If they list specific physical characteristics then run away. That shows that they have unrealistic expectations for you. If they say “swipe right if you like tacos” or things that show their interest then that’s a green flag.

Just avoid those red flags and you’ll be set. Happy swiping!
