With Thanksgiving approaching it is always good to take some time to reflect on what you are thankful for. Every year the world seems to get more and more complicated. It seems there is so much negativity, especially in the mainstream media, that it can feel extremely good to focus on some positivity. Here are some of the reasons I am thankful this holiday season.
Health
The most important of them all. This is why it needs to be number 1. I am lucky enough to be here, on this great earth and attending school. There are plenty of people who unfortunately are not lucky enough to do that. When things get stressful it is key to take a step back and realize how people would love to be in your position.
Family
This is something everyone has a different definition for. Immediate family for me, I love them all. Coming from a divorced home things can get messy sometimes, but with the love I have from them, my home base is everything I could want and more. We do not have a huge extended family, so things can tend to get a little lonely around the holiday season. But we always find a way to stay strong and make things work. I have a great relationship with my parents and my brother and our relationship gets stronger and stronger as each year goes on. I am looking forward to spending the holidays with all of my family members.
My boyfriend
He is my home base. After 5 years, I still find myself falling in love over and over again with the same guy. I consider myself a lucky girl, and I am so thankful to have such an amazing guy I can share my life and experiences with. As well as, enjoy the holidays together.
Friends
I am thankful to have found my nitch this year in college. I found my little group here at school. My best friends mean the world to me and I am so thankful for them and our friendship. Having a small group where you know you have each others backs is amazing. Also, having a whole team of girls is something to be very thankful for. I know I can count on my teammates and it’s nice to have so many friendly faces in your corner around campus.
Food
Everyone loves food who am I kidding. However, I am very thankful to find myself in a very comfortable position in life. I do not have to question when or where my next meal is coming from. I know there are many people who are not fortunate enough to be in that position. It is something I do not take the time to think about each day, but when you take a step back to reflect, it is a huge deal and I am very thankful for it.
Opportunities
I am thankful for the privilege to attend college and continue my journey through higher education. Being able to come here and not stress about money and focus on my studies is a privilege I am beyond thankful for. Also, having the opportunity to play a collegiate sport is something not everyone gets to experience and is very special to me. I am thankful for my parents for allowing me to grow up this way and experience these wonderful things.
All in all, I am very thankful for the life I live. It may not be the most glamorous, but it’s good enough for me.
