Burnout is when an individual works themselves to such an over extensive amount that it impacts their health and ability to continue working. Some of the symptoms of burnout are depression, stress, anxiety, exhaustion, and lethargy.

Whether one is managing burnout in their career, education, or life at home it is important to take action against the stress of burnout and complete tasks that will organize one’s life.

1. Manage time.

It is best to create a schedule and analyze the free time you have for work. Dedicate time to complete work. Assign for different tasks and activities.

2. Organize tasks and work.

Organizing your work by importance and due date helps to get things done faster. It will encourage you to work more efficiently. Efficiency is a great thing because it can eliminate unnecessary work and put an end to stress.

3. Complete tasks and work in the most effective way for you as an individual.

Everyone processes things differently so it is good to consider what will work best for you. Try different strategies to determine what best suits your style and personality. What may work for you might not work best for others. It is okay to keep exploring methods until you find one you like. Once you find a method, stay consistent with it.

4. Discover leisure activities that make you happy.

Though completion of work is important, taking care of yourself matters the most. Keep in mind that an individual cannot work at their best if they are not feeling their best. Maintain your work ethic but, allot time for leisure activities that will bring you happiness. Enjoying your life includes participating in things that interest you. Leisure activities can vary depending on own personal interest but examples may include traveling, reading, relaxing, watching entertainment, or going out for food.

5. Take pride in work and do it to the best of your ability.

Lastly, the greatest idea to retain in this article is that you should be proud of the work you are completing. The biggest factor of burnout is emotion, and if one feels as though their work is not serving a purpose they will most likely lose motivation. To avoid burnout, one should remind themselves of the purpose their work serves and how they have an impact on this world in some way.

Meet Bianca, I am currently a Junior at Utica College in Utica, NY.  I am a Criminal Justice major with a concentration in Homeland Security.  Crime investigation has always been something that interests me.  I’m dedicated and passionate and it’s hard for me to quit things. I get that from my father so don’t hold it against me- he was a veteran and police officer for 20 years.   Growing up in a family centered around law enforcement has helped guide me in this direction, and I will forever be grateful.  After graduation I intend to continue on to law school where I can further my education in hopes of becoming a criminal defense lawyer and later on a District Attorney.  An interesting fact about myself is that I found the passion to be a criminal defense lawyer from watching the O.J. Simpson case.  The facts and conspiracy theories evoked a whole new passion behind criminal investigation that I intend to use in my future.  One of my most prominent moments in my writing career was when I wrote for an online magazine and had my most prevalent article hit 1.6k shares.  I believe in treating people with the same kind of respect and manners you would expect in return, and in a way it has helped shaped my expectations in life.   When you first meet me I won’t be the loudest in the room or the center of attention, but I will be intently listening to everything you say, for what you have to say may have a purpose. I believe in purpose. I believe that everyone is here to help you grow into who you are today and who you will be tomorrow.
