Resolution Refocus: Time To Remember The Goals You Made For 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Don’t worry you are not alone, you’re a few weeks into the New Year and none of your resolutions have stuck. This doesn’t mean you can’t make improvements in your life or try and restart these resolutions, but it may mean it’s time to reevaluate the goals you had set for yourself!

If you need to start your goals over or simply need some motivation to stick to your goals, here are 5 ways to get back on track this year!

1. It is important to be setting goals for yourself, but make sure they are attainable and realistic. If you want to workout more often, awesome! But it’s probably not realistic to workout 2 hours everyday. Look at your schedule and set goals that won’t crush you or take away from other aspects of your life. These goals are meant to enhance your life not make it more stressful.

2. Make your goals or resolutions known. If friends and family are holding you accountable it is more likely you will achieve said goal. So shout it to the world, make a Facebook post, or start a blog about achieving those goals. Do you work better in a team? Grab your bestie and set goals together! This way you will be constantly checking in the other person and yourself! Be proud of what you are trying to achieve!

3. There is no shame in deciding your goal is just not important to you anymore; we are always changing which means our priorities change as well so don’t be afraid to let go of things you wanted and focus on what is seemingly more crucial to you right now. Abandon what does not help you and hold on to what makes you happiest.

4. Set markers for yourself! Maybe your goal is to save $5,000 throughout 2016, mark dates on your calendar that line up with smaller financial goals such as packing lunches for 2 weeks or reaching $1,000 of the goal by March. This will help you feel you are getting somewhere and also encourage you to stay on course!

5. If you forget about your resolution or just ignore it, it’s never to late to start over and try again. When March comes around and you realize you still haven’t read 4 books a month, pick one up then! Your goals are for the year, not just the first month. Don’t let failure keep you from trying again and again.

With a busy semester and the rush of starting classes and being back with your squad, it is easy to get off track, however one month doesn’t define your entire 2016. So be sure to take time and make sure you are going in the direction you would like to see yourself.

If I am not on campus I am hopefully off in another country meeting new people...or lying in my bed under a million blankets watching that day's netflix binge.
