From sorority life to a Her Campus superstar this young woman is a force to be reckoned with! Meet Paris Smith! She joined Her Campus Utah in 2015 as our first and only creative writer! Spearheading the Her Creative Writing column, she shows what it truly means to be a collegiette! Learn more about our marvelous team member!

Her Campus Utah: You’re the only creative writer for Her Campus Utah! What are the positives and negatives of being the first and the only creative writer for a magazine?

Paris: It makes me feel unique being the only creative writer for Her Campus Utah! I absolutely love writing for the magazine. One of the negatives is writing a short story takes a lot of time. I don’t let it get me too down though, because when I receive positive feedback about my stories it makes it worth it! I love making people laugh with my writing.

Her Campus Utah: Your stories are amazing! They’re always so funny, relatable, or emotional! How do you come up with ideas?

Paris: All of my stories have been based off of real life experiences. Some of them are more metaphorical but they are always about either my current love interest, or past events that were too hilarious not to share.

Her Campus Utah: What is your favorite part of creative writing?

Paris:  My favorite part of creative writing is being able to write about my life experiences. Fair warning, if I date you then I will most likely be writing my next Her Campus story about you!

Her Campus Utah: What advice do you have for others wanting to be involved with creative writing?

Paris: Don’t be afraid to use emotion is your stories. Creative writing is so much fun and I would love to see others write short stories for Her Campus!

Her Campus Utah: How has being able to publish your creative writing short stories, helped you become a stronger writer?

Paris: Writing a short story every week has helped me improve as a writer because the best way to become a better writer, is to write. It is also helpful seeing which stories get the most attention, it helps me see what my audience enjoys!

Her Campus Utah: What is your favorite story you’ve written?

Paris: My favorite story I have written so far is: Wooden doors and Shattered Glass. Writing this story was a healing process for me and was a great reminder to love myself before I can love someone else. (link to story: http://www.hercampus.com/school/utah/her-creative-writing-wooden-doors-a…

Her Campus Utah: Any final words for your weekly readers??

Paris:  I am so grateful for those of you who take the time to read my stories. It means the world to me when you come up to me in person or over Facebook and tell me that you enjoyed my story I wrote that week. I want to write stories that you can all relate to, so please let me know if there is anything I can improve on.

We are so grateful for our outstanding creative writer! Check out her stories weekly under the Feature column! We love Paris and are so glad she’s a member of our team. HCXO.
