Four cheap and cute accessory updates

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Are you already craving fall fashion? Got your boots and socks on? Ready to get your coat cleaned for the season? Before you empty your wallet and your storage closet, there are a few fun and cheap ways to update your fall look.

A bright and cute umbrella can be a life-saver and a standout accessory. At TJ Maxx, Walmart and Ross stores, you can find mini umbrellas that are perfect for your purse or backpack. They are patterned and come in all kinds of colors, too! You also get a little bag to put your umbrella in, so you have a way to carry and store it. Sunny into class and rainy on the way out? No problem!

What’s one accessory you use every minute of every day? Your cell phone! Update it for fall with a cute new case. You can find one on amazon.com for about $3.00. It’s fun to change up the look of your phone, and everyone sees it when you make a call or send a text. You could grab a few for the different holidays, a rhinestone-encrusted sparkler or a funky case that you only dare wear on your phone.

If you want to stay warm while your body is getting used to the cooler temperatures, throw on a light weight scarf. Many stores like Express, H&M and Urban Outfitters still have summer scarves on their clearance racks. With a heavy jacket or dark layers, a light colored scarf adds interest and texture without adding bulk, and it will keep you warm!

One other accessory that’s even worth a splurge if you can: your purse! You bring it everywhere with you. Everyone sees it, you’re constantly digging through it and it’s worn with every outfit. Neon and cloth are not the best choices for winter! Up your sophistication with a faux leather option in a dark, cool hue. Plum, light turquoise, mustard and vampy red are all great options. Black works really well, too! It won’t clash with patterned jeans or a sparkly dress.

Fall is here, and winter is right around the corner! If you’re not ready to pull out your heavy duty outerwear and cold-weather accessories, these are a few options to fill the gap until you are. Stay chic, even in times of transition!

She has a lot of energy and an outgoing personality- perfect for her work in service coordination, peer advising, the Department of Communication, Express, and of course HerCampus! Jetta loves social media, writing, and learning new promotion and advertising skills. She does not currently drive a Jetta, but hopefully she can afford one upon completion of her degree!
