Annie Ricks, a sophomore at the University of Utah, has many talents that make her one of the most interesting women around. She is passionate about makeup, fashion, travelling and going to concerts, all while being a Chi Omega and trying to find out what major would fit best her.

Makeup and Fashion

Annie’s love for makeup and fashion started young because her mom is a MAC makeup artist. She loves expressing herself through an outfit or makeup and really appreciates a good sense of fashion in other people. She looks at fashion and makeup as an art form and considers herself an artist through her different looks. She likes how there are no set rules in these industries. When we asked what she would consider her “style” to be, she replied “chameleon,” because it is always changing. It can range from edgy to sporty to bohemian chic.  As far as her makeup goes, she always looks at her face as a blank canvas and then from their gets creative. You can see some of her makeup and outfit creations on her instagram @annie_ricks and hopefully her blog someday!

Travel

In addition to her love for makeup and fashion, Annie also loves to travel!  One of her favorite places is Seattle.  When she went, she got to explore the mainland and also trek to the San Juan Islands for a few days and see the beautiful scenery.  Another one of her favorite places but very different from Seattle is Ecuador.  She travelled there in the summer of 2015 on a humanitarian trip.  She found that it was a very humbling and rewarding experience.  In addition to serving the people and visiting schools in need, she also got to practice her Spanish and work towards her goal of being bi-lingual. Through these experiences and many others like it, she has learned that the best thing you can do while travelling is to go in with an open heart, mind and attitude. In each place she’s visited, she has learned so much about the place itself and herself as an individual.  She’s learned that there is something to appreciate within each and every culture and her perspective changes for the better.  These are definitely great tips for travelling that everyone should keep in mind when they venture to a new place!

Chi Omega and the University of Utah

A big part of Annie’s experience at the U has been joining Chi Omega.  She joined in the fall of 2015 and this semester served as assistant New Member Educator.  She has loved this role because she gets to help teach the Fall ’16 class about the history of chi omega and make sure every one is feeling welcomed and comfortable.  She credits her sisters for bringing out the best in her and loves that every one has something different to bring to the table.  When she joined, she was a freshmen out-of-state student and states that joining Greek Life was the best decision she’s ever made.

Greek Life isn’t the only thing Annie loves about the U, though.  She also enjoys how many opportunities there are and feels like the U has all of the resources she needs at her fingertips to be successful.  The campus has given her a sense of community and even just walking around makes her feel at home.  She feels that the University of Utah does an excellent job at inspiring students to make there dreams a reality and with that in mind, feels they are doing a great job at preparing her for her dream job of being an event planner for Vogue.

Concerts

Most people would think that between following her passion for makeup and fashion while being a sorority women and pursuing a Bachelors degree would be enough but Annie has one more goal she is aiming for.  Annie would like to attend 50 concerts by the time she is twenty.  She isn’t quite sure why she picked that number or that age but now she is sticking with it.  So far she has attended a concert in basically every genre ranging from country to pop.  Some of the notable artists have been Tim McGraw, One Republic, Ingrid Michelson and Jesse y Joy (her favorite Latino Duo). She loves that music can evoke so many different emotions.

Wow! Annie is one passionate, driven women! We cannot wait to see what she accomplishes next!
