We’re coming up on my one-year anniversary of joining my sorority, Pi Beta Phi. With a heavy heart, I wanted to share my story in the hopes of inspiring you to find your girl gang.

I’ll be the first to admit, I never envisioned myself joining a sorority. I had my roommate freshman year, who turned into my best friend and that was all I needed.

And then one day, she decided to drop out. I was lost, and for the first time I felt alone at school.

One day, I saw a post on Facebook from a girl I once had class with. She was recruiting for the spring semester. After a good laugh, I gave it a second thought. Should I really do this? And then I signed my name up.

And I never looked back.

In the past year, I have made the strongest friendships. I have grown as a woman. I have been given the love and support of dozens of sisters. I have touched people’s lives. I have helped children and families. I have found a home away from home.

Even if you don’t think sorority life is for you, you should try it. You might surprise yourself. I know I did.
