Three Easy Tips to Help Your Makeup Look Flawless

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

The weather is getting warmer and you may notice that your daily makeup routine is no longer working. You may find that your makeup is melting away only after a few hours of wear. The humidity in the air isn’t helping either, it leaves you feeling sweaty and oily. This is around the time that you need to add a few extra steps into your routine to help lock your makeup into place.

Below are three simple tips to ensure that your face is looking flawless throughout the day. They are easy and will only add a few minutes into your daily routine.

1. Use a primer

This will assist in a smoother application and long lasting wear. The first thing you want to do is determine your skin type. One of my favorite options is Smashbox which offers a line of primers suitable for different skin types. Their primers are applied before foundation. Another great option (my personal favorite) is the Urban Decay Setting Spray. This is applied before and after you apply your makeup. It helps control oil so that your foundation isn’t melting off your face in the Florida heat. You can even double up and use both of these primers together for an even stronger lasting power.

2. Apply powder

After your foundation application, you should always apply your finishing powder to help seal it in. This will help absorb any moisture or oil left on your face. Finishing powders are compact and can also be brought with you on the go. If you’re feeling oily, you can whip it out and touch up your foundation. My go to powder is the translucent powder by Dermablend. It feels light and keeps my makeup in place for hours.

3. Carry blotting sheets

These little sheets are a lifesaver and should be in every girl’s bag. Blotting with a regular paper towel or napkin will remove some of your makeup. These sheets are designed to help blot away excess oil without smudging your makeup. They are small, easy to use, and one is usually enough to do the trick. I use Sephora’s brand; however, there are an array of brands that offer blotting sheets and they all give the same results. If you have tissue paper lying around, you can use these instead and it will have the same effect.
