Tampa Bay Purple Stride for Pancreatic Cancer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

Calling all runners!
If you are looking for a local race that benefits a really great cause, look no further. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is sponsoring a certified 5k race , a recreational fun run for kids, and a one mile fun walk for all ages. These races will be on Saturday Nov. 5, so be sure to sign up soon. Not only will you get to race through beautiful downtown St. Pete, but you will receive a race day t-shirt, fajitas provided by Cody’s Roadhouse and ice cream after the run.

The pancreas is a crucial organ that not only creates insulin for the entire body, but also produces necessary enzymes used to break down proteins. The only suitable treatment for pancreatic cancer is surgery to remove the tumor, which can often be very expensive. Even with the surgery, 95% of patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer do not survive 5 years past their prognosis, so it is important to bring awareness and help find a cure for this devastating form of cancer.
For all you runners, walkers, sprinters, and joggers, make sure to sign up for this race online by following the link provided below and good luck on race day!
