Refugee Youth Services

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

The Refugee Youth and Family Program is a part of Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services. This is a remarkable program. They provide assistance to families that have basically been exiled out of their country because they are no longer safe there. So many of these families are relocated here, mostly Cubans and Haitians.  Through their program they find appropriate housing for the families as well as help the families out with finances and  teaching them everything they need to know about living in America. They teach them small things like how to properly cross the street to bigger things like getting insurance and how to properly find a job. Someone from the program also helps parents get their kids enrolled in school. They provide an orientation about U.S schools to students and their parents along with tutoring services for students in 6th- 12th grade. All of the above mentioned  is provided for free to these resettled families. The Youth and Family Program is always looking for volunteers. If interested go to www.gcjfcs.org/refugee for more information.
