Playlist Live 2016: My Experience

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

I can’t believe the best weekend of my life is over. Playlist Live- a convention for YouTube stars and lovers of social media-Orlando 2016 will be one of those memories I look back on in a couple of years and think, “Was I really there?”

Since this was my first year going to Playlist, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Walking into the World Marriott felt like a dream; pink and blue “Playlist Live” signs in every direction you look, hundreds of teenage girls rushing around trying to follow or find the familiar faces of boys that they had only seen through a computer screen, some over the course of years.

At Playlist, there was always something to do. If you weren’t in a meetup with your favorite social media stars, there was panels to attend, people walking around to take pictures with, and merchandise booths to explore.

I attended three meetups throughout the weekend. My favorite meetup, of course, had to be the Sunday morning one because of the anticipation of waiting months to meet the boys in the meetup. I met YouTubers Sam Potorff, Romeo Lacoste (my favorite), Alex Lee (aka Alex from Target), and Diegosaurs. These boys were all incredibly sweet to talk to, easing my nerves and jittery hands. I woke up around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday to ensure that I would be among the first to meet them, and to my surprise, I came out as a winner. I was the first in line for the meetup, and I got to spendthe most time talking to the boys.

Alex Lee was the first to walk out from behind the curtain, immediately spotting the pack of crackers in my hand and asking, “Can I have one of those?” It was one of the rare moments that are too funny to forget, especially when the young lady behind me whispered, “I wish Alex from Target would take a cracker from me.”

I was also floured when Romeo Lacoste in the glory of all of his tattoos (he is a tattoo artist in L.A.) came out, and was left speechless after approaching him as he told me how pretty I was. I know that was a moment in time that I will never forget.

Overall, my first Playlist Live was a great experience- I shared a hotel room with my wonderful friend Acushla, I met some of my favorite people I’ve watched through my computer screen for years, I took a load of selfies, and made memories that will stay with me forever. If you are a fan of social media, I highly recommend attending Playlist- it happens annually in Orlando and Washington D.C; it’s a weekend you won’t want to miss!
