The dining program at USF St. Petersburg has expanded and undergone several changes as of this semester; one of their new offers is World of Wings (WOW) Café, a fast food joint situated in the new student lounge at Coquina Hall, with the school swimming pool just outside. Conveniently out of the way and free of the congestion that characterizes the Reef during lunch hours, students may use their meal plans—if they have them—to purchase crispy chicken wings (complete with an array of sauces), seasoned fries or their new wraps, burgers or chicken sandwiches. While waiting for their meal, students can play pool or table hockey or watch Comedy Central on the giant flat-screen TV. This is indeed an ideal place to relax between classes or during the weekend. Just recently, The Crow’s Nest cited WOW as a hit among students based on a survey they took of a hundred people, with WOW garnering the most votes at 38 percent.

But there are drawbacks. The food, while certainly of quality, may be a bit pricey for some, especially those who commute to school and don’t have meal plans. Also, they don’t yet have yellow mustard available for sandwiches, though that’s more of a nitpick of mine. I personally am grateful to WOW that I can satiate my cravings for chicken wings with a schedule that keeps me from going to Midtown like I used to. WOW’s wings might even be better!

Here’s what other USFSP students have had to say about it:

“Better than the Reef.”

—Christian, freshman, undecided.

“A good alternative than the cafeteria…they’ve got longer and more consistent hours and broader variety in food.”

—Angelica, freshman, Health Sciences; and Nadia, sophomore, Psychology.

“The atmosphere is nice and the food is good, relatively.”

—Rachel, freshman, Education.

“I like it! It’s fast, the chicken tastes authentic, and it’s a cool place to hang out.”

—Jennifer, freshman, Biology.

“I don’t usually like this kind of food, but the food is really good, and I like the atmosphere.”

—Emily, freshman, Mass Communications.
